Oklahoma City Barons (20-7-0-2) at Charlotte Checkers (17-11-1-1)
It’s no secret to my friends that the Edmonton Oilers are one of (if not my VERY) favorite teams in the NHL, so it was fun to see the Barons in action on Sunday, though I enjoyed the Checkers winning even more.
The Barons came into Sunday’s game tired from a late arrival in Charlotte (I heard their flight didn’t get in until about noon for a 6 p.m. game), and Saturday night had an OT win in Texas. With a day off yesterday, they should be well rested and ready to battle tonight at the arena.
In four games this season, Charlotte is 3-1-0 against Oklahoma City. Their most recent contest was Sunday, which the Checkers won in a shootout.
- The Barons are currently number one in the Western Conference, and the entire AHL. Charlotte sits in second in the Western Conf., and fifth in the league. Not too shabby considered just last week they were in the midst of a four-game losing streak.
- The Checkers are the only team in the AHL to hold a winning record against the Barons.
- The Barons are without goaltender Yann Danis on this trip. He stayed home in Oklahoma City, awaiting the birth of his child. Fortunately for the Barons, they have two number one goaltenders, and David LeNeveu who in 13 games, is 7-3-2-1 with a 1.99 GAA and .930 SV%.
