Yesterday was a good day. In Michigan, the Checkers overcame an epicly gross score of 4-1 early in the second period to end up defeating the Grand Rapids Griffins by a score of 6-4 thanks to the goaltending stylings of Dan Ellis, and a Checkers squad that didn’t give up when the cards were stacked against them. Tonight, the Checkers face the Peoria Rivermen. You can follow the Chasing Checkers game day twitter list HERE. And if my friend from the Rivermen Blog starts chirping, feel free to dish it back! He deserves it!
Yesterday was also great because I received my season tickets for the year. They came in a plain manila envelope, which isn’t NEARLY as fancy as the tin complete with pucks, patches and other neat stuff that the Rockford IceHogs distributed to their season ticket holders, but who cares. They are CHECKERS tickets, and that, to me, is pretty invaluable.
My Checkers social media also dreams came true yesterday. After years of wishing and hoping, they finally produced an epicly cheesy video for people worldwide to enjoy.
My dreaming started in 2010, when the Belfast Giants made an awesome Christmas video. AWESOME, I tell you!
In the past year, many other great sports videos have been made. The Milwaukee Admirals did the Twelve Days of Christmas. The Harvard Baseball Team did a video of “Call Me Maybe.” The US Olympic Swim Team put together a video with the same song.
But now, the Checkers have followed in the footsteps of awesome with a great rendition of “Ice Ice Baby” featuring the dancing stylings of Michal Jordan, Justin Krueger, Victor Rask, Sean Dolan and Riley Nash. I’d love to know how this fab five was chosen, with an emphasis on fab!
Even PuckDaddy thought it was awesome (AND IT IS!)
The Checkmates and Chubby can also be seen in the video, along with a cameo by the most AWESOME COO in all of professional sports, Tera Black.
Just when I think I can’t appreciate the Checkers any more, they bring things up a notch with a video like this one.
Enjoy, y’all. Cause this is a keeper!
